在国际设计艺术院校联盟（济南）会议开幕式上的致辞
 
    For the first time of its recent history, the Cumulus network will see its members gathered together in China thanks to the invitation by the university of Jinan. This meeting will give us the opportunity to recognize the ever-growing significance of China as a political, economical and cultural power on the global scene.
    The conference in Jinan represents a new step in the development of Cumulus and a very crucial one. The challenge of education in China will change the world. To educate all the young chinese is a tremendous international bet on the future, not only for China, but also for the whole world.
    It is probable that many chinese students and teachers will travel all over the world to join foreign universities. On the other hand, China will have to welcome more and more foreign students and teachers willing to enrich themselves in Chinese culture and standards.
    China has a lot to teach us : its culture is thousands of year old, rich of centuries of creation and innovation. It is a country of design.
    So, and let’s talk to all the students who are in this auditorium : you have to invent the world of tomorrow, and to do it in a sense of progress for Mankind. You have the responsability to create “harmony”, to formulate the Confucean concept of equity, making man/woman responsible of his/her choice to become virtuous or not.
    The harmony within design and designers would be to accept all the cultures, all the differences, all the beliefs in order to create wealth for all. And this is the sense of Cumulus to mix all the cultures, and to point out all the differences.
    “ Harmony” is an utopia and “Utopia” is the island of the creators. To you, students, you have the luck to work and to build up your island of Utopia. Don’t miss the chance to build a better planet with peace and Harmony.
    If design has a meaning, this meaning should be to strive to come up with new ways to live together in a peaceful and harmonious worldwide context.
    « Thinking about tomorrow in order to achieving progress ». Here is the duty of designers and creative professionals all over the world. May this first Cumulus meeting in Jinan « Design, Olympics and Harmony » contributes to this effort.
